President Embarks on State Visits to India and Vietnam
President Lee will embark on state visits to India and Vietnam from the 19th to the 24th, a trip spanning 5 nights and 6 days. On the 16th, Wi Sung-rak, head of the National Security Office, announced that the tour aims to activate 'Global South' diplomacy and advance strategic economic cooperation between Korea and Vietnam.
President Lee will first visit New Delhi, India, from the 19th to the 21st for a 2-night, 3-day stay, where he will hold a summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This visit marks the first state visit by a South Korean president to India in eight years and is reportedly the shortest period from a government's inauguration to such a visit in history.
During the summit, measures to strengthen economic cooperation in strategic sectors such as shipbuilding, finance, artificial intelligence (AI), and defense industries are expected to be discussed. President Lee is also scheduled to meet with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on the 19th and lay a wreath at Mahatma Gandhi's memorial on the 20th.
