People Power Party candidate for Jeju governor, Moon Sung-yu, has pledged to establish a National Climate Graduate School to cultivate climate experts and create a climate technology hub to develop innovative solutions, transforming the climate crisis into a new economic opportunity for Jeju.

Candidate Moon stressed that the climate crisis is an undeniable reality and requires a response through advanced industries, vowing to build a global climate technology hub that capitalizes on Jeju's unique geography to enable direct commercialization of research.

The National Climate Graduate School aims to go beyond simply attracting an institution, envisioning a structure where cutting-edge research, demonstration, and commercialization form a virtuous cycle. This educational institution will train specialized personnel tailored to Jeju's climate, marine, and agricultural environments. Its research outcomes are slated to be linked with smart agriculture and circular resource innovation companies to establish a support system for transitioning into actual businesses. Furthermore, the plan includes adopting a model where companies and research institutions collaborate on joint projects, and education directly leads to employment and entrepreneurship.

Moon anticipates that these plans will lead to the influx of world-class climate specialists, the creation of new industries in the climate tech sector, securing youth employment, and strengthening the foundation of the primary industry. He expressed his ambition to turn Jeju into "a Jeju that researches climate and sells climate technology" by seizing the climate crisis as an economic opportunity.
