Shin Jinseo 9-dan Plays Exhibition Match with Google DeepMind CEO Hassabis

This event commemorates the 10th anniversary of the historic 2016 match between AlphaGo and Lee Sedol 9-dan, serving as an occasion to contemplate the future of humans and artificial intelligence (AI).

Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, will attend an AI technology forum in Seoul on the 29th to play a symbolic Go match with Shin Jinseo 9-dan. Shin Jinseo 9-dan, ranked world No. 1 in Go, will engage in a roughly 10-minute exhibition match with CEO Hassabis on the theme '10 Years After AlphaGo, the Next Move for Humans and AI.' This match is symbolic, emphasizing 'Sudam' (a conversation through hands) rather than a formal competition.

The Korea Baduk Association had initially planned a substantive match between AlphaGo and Shin Jinseo 9-dan, but this has been replaced by a symbolic encounter for the event. Some regret has been expressed over this change.

As part of the event, Google DeepMind will present a plaque of appreciation to the Korea Baduk Association, and CEO Demis Hassabis will receive an amateur 7-dan certificate. An exchange of signed Go boards between Shin Jinseo 9-dan and CEO Hassabis is also planned, fostering a platform for interaction.
