Man Gets 10 Years in Prison on Appeal for Raping Minor Stepdaughter, Abusing Biological Daughter
A man in his 40s, identified as A (41), who sexually assaulted his minor stepdaughter and abused his biological daughter, has received a 10-year prison sentence in his appeal trial, identical to the first instance. The Daejeon High Court Criminal Division 3 upheld the 10-year sentence handed down in the initial trial, citing charges including rape under the Act on the Protection of Children and Youth against Sex Offenses, child abuse under the Child Welfare Act, and injury. A had appealed, arguing the original sentence was too severe, but the court found no special circumstances justifying a reduced sentence.
A is accused of sexually assaulting his teenage stepdaughter, B, multiple times in April last year at a villa in Geumsan, South Chungcheong Province. During the investigation, A reportedly stated, "You can just say it was discipline even if you tell Mom." In addition to this, A habitually assaulted B and her two sisters. He also committed child abuse, such as hitting his two-year-old biological daughter's forehead and back for spitting out food, causing the child to fall backward.
The first trial court sentenced A to 10 years in prison, stating, "The defendant did not support the victims and, while not engaging in any economic activity, assaulted and abused the victims while the mother was at work." Furthermore, the court ordered 5 years of probation and mandatory disclosure of personal information due to a high risk of reoffending.
