Chinese National in His 30s Arrested for Alleged Arson at Wando Cold Storage Facility

A Chinese national in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of setting a cold storage facility ablaze in Wando, South Jeolla Province. The worker is believed to have started the fire while using a torch during paint removal work. Suspect A, an undocumented immigrant from China in his 30s, was arrested on the 14th on grounds including the risk of flight.

Two firefighters died in the blaze. Police have also booked the construction company representative who directed A's work on charges of professional negligence resulting in fire, and are investigating whether safety management was lax.

Separately, during the third week of April, incidents such as a student causing a concussion to their homeroom teacher in Gwangju and an employer in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, seriously injuring a foreign worker with an air gun also occurred.
