Busan Nuclear Industry Expo Opens, Spotlighting SMRs and Other Future Technologies

The '2026 Busan International Nuclear Industry Exhibition' opened its doors at BEXCO in Busan on the 22nd. The event was organized to share the latest trends in the nuclear industry and ensure electricity supply in the era of artificial intelligence (AI). Under the theme 'Nuclear Business Platform Opening the AI Era,' the exhibition features participation from 130 companies from 19 countries, showcasing their latest technologies across 420 booths.

Notably, technologies related to Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), which are gaining attention as future energy sources, are on display. Major domestic and international companies such as Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Doosan Enerbility, America's Westinghouse, and France's Orano and Framatome are participating. Busan City is also operating a 'Busan City Joint Pavilion' for eight local nuclear equipment manufacturers and holding export consultation sessions concurrently.

During the exhibition, the '2026 Korea Nuclear Society Annual Conference' will be held, along with the '25th Pacific Basin Nuclear Conference (PBNC),' marking its return to Korea after 14 years since 2012. The conference is expected to discuss the role of nuclear power in addressing climate crisis and ensuring energy security.
