National Tourism Strategy Council Elevated to Presidential Directorship
The 'National Tourism Strategy Council,' the control tower for South Korea's tourism policy, will be elevated from being under the Prime Minister to under the direct authority of the President. This measure reflects the government's commitment to fostering the tourism industry as a national strategic sector.
With this revision, the council's deliberation and coordination functions will expand beyond the establishment of tourism promotion plans to include evaluating implementation performance and reflecting outcomes in policy, thereby maximizing government-wide collaboration and policy effectiveness.
As the first follow-up measure to these institutional reforms, a 'National Tourism Policy Proposal Contest' will be held from the 22nd to December 12th in conjunction with the Korea Tourism Organization. Selected proposals are planned to be reflected in actual tourism policies.
