The draft of the new congressional map proposed by Democrats could give them a 10-1 advantage in Virginia's House seats, a significant shift from the current situation where Democrats hold 6 out of 11 seats. It was warned that if the proposal passes, Virginia Democrats would eliminate four out of five congressional districts, reducing Virginia's representation in Washington. Critics argued that allowing Democrats to hold a 10-1 seat monopoly is excessive gerrymandering.

The new redistricting plan is being pushed before the 2026 midterm elections. Currently, Democratic voters have a slight advantage among Virginia voters, but Republicans and independents also represent a considerable portion.
