Soaring Egg Prices Make Even One Egg in Ramen a Burden

Egg prices have surged by 15% in just two months due to the prolonged Middle East conflict and outbreaks of avian flu (AI). This has pushed the price of a carton of eggs beyond 7,000 won, increasing the burden on household grocery budgets.

The government began importing 2.24 million Thai eggs, which went on sale at a major supermarket last weekend. However, this supply sold out within a single day, and critics pointed out that it was insufficient to stabilize overall prices.

Lee Eun-hee, a consumer studies professor at Inha University, analyzed that the rising prices of major food staples purchased at supermarkets have the greatest impact on consumers' perception of inflation. The government plans to go all out to stabilize prices by offering discounts.
