Parliamentary Committee to Investigate Newstapa Probe Allegations
The National Assembly's Special Committee for Investigating Allegations of Prosecutorial Misconduct Under the Yoon Suk-yeol Administration (Special Committee) has pointed out that searches and seizures related to the 'Yoon Suk-yeol defamation case' were conducted illegally.
Kim Woo-cheol, former chief policy advisor for land, infrastructure, and transport at the Democratic Party, testified that excessive investigations, including inquiries into communication records, were carried out over two years and six investigation sessions, despite individuals mentioned in the warrants having no connection to him.
Newstapa reporter Han Sang-jin stated that illegal searches and seizures of his home occurred, including the unauthorized opening of a laptop, and that he has filed a lawsuit for state compensation.
Former reporter Bong Ji-wook testified that he was made to wait in a hallway without a warrant being presented during the search and seizure, and that his 6th-grade daughter witnessed the scene.
