Jo Gwang-han Resigns Backing Lee Seong-bae, Calls Him 'The One to Face Choo Mi-ae'
Jo Gwang-han, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, announced his resignation from the Gyeonggi Province gubernatorial primary race on May 21st, just before the competition, to support Lee Seong-bae, a former MBC announcer. Jo described Lee Seong-bae as 'the only candidate who can defeat candidate Choo Mi-ae,' framing the potential confrontation with Choo as a 'clash between a political opportunist filled with arrogance, self-righteousness, and malice, and a 40-something young elite with expertise.'
Supreme Council member Yang Hyang-ja called Jo Gwang-han's actions 'deliberate interference in the primary' and urged for his dismissal.
Members of the National Assembly from the Gyeonggi region within the People Power Party announced the formation of an 'independent election committee,' distancing themselves from the party leadership.
