Ahn Min-seok Confirmed as Democratic-Progressive Unity Candidate for Gyeonggi Provincial Superintendent of Education; Faces Im Tae-hee in General Election

Former lawmaker Ahn Min-seok has been confirmed as the unified candidate for the Democratic-Progressive camp in the Gyeonggi Provincial Superintendent of Education election, scheduled for June 3. The ‘Gyeonggi Education Innovation Alliance for Unification of Democratic-Progressive Gyeonggi Education Superintendent Candidates’ announced the selection of Ahn as the unified candidate at a press conference held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly briefing room on the 22nd. The selection of the unified candidate was determined by a method combining 55% from elector votes and 45% from public opinion polls. Ahn competed against Park Hyo-jin, former president of the Gyeonggi branch of the Korean Teachers' and Education Workers' Union; Sung Ki-seon, former president of the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation; and Yoo Eun-hae, former Deputy Prime Minister for Education and Minister of Education.

He served five terms representing the Osan district in Gyeonggi Province.

Ahn is set to face the incumbent Gyeonggi Provincial Superintendent of Education, Im Tae-hee, in the general election. Immediately after being confirmed as the candidate, Ahn posted on his Facebook page, stating, "We must achieve an overwhelming victory in the general election" and "We must make Gyeonggi Province a center of education that the world pays attention to."
