Ban on AI Deepfakes in Election Campaigns

The National Election Commission (NEC) will completely ban the use of deepfake and AI-generated videos in election campaigns and strengthen crackdowns on illegal activities.

As of the 10th, a total of 4,661 cases related to election campaigning using deepfake videos and the like have been detected. Some of these were reported to the police, while 4,652 cases were requested for deletion.

Candidates will not be allowed to produce jingles using 'deep voice' (AI voice synthesis) or create printed materials (election posters, campaign flyers) with AI if they are difficult to distinguish from reality.

The NEC will operate a three-stage detection system in line with advancements in AI technology, utilizing detection programs from the Korea Electronics Technology Institute and the National Forensic Service.
