Kim Dae-shik Urges Unification in Busan Buk-gap By-election If Han Dong-hoon Runs
Kim Dae-shik, a lawmaker from the People Power Party, has called for unification between the party's candidate and former leader Han Dong-hoon in the by-election for the Busan Buk-gap parliamentary seat, which Han is reportedly considering running in.
Appearing on a JTBC YouTube channel, Kim described Han Dong-hoon as "one of our precious talents in conservatism" and advocated for unification. He expressed concern that if the People Power Party fields its own candidate, it could inadvertently benefit the Democratic Party. Kim stressed the need for conservative forces to unite, stating that fielding three candidates would effectively hand victory to the Democrats.
When the host questioned whether Jang Dong-hyuk, the party leader, would easily accept unification with Han Dong-hoon, Kim Dae-shik acknowledged Jang's position, considering Han's independent status. However, Kim remained firm in his stance, insisting that unification "must happen."
Earlier, Jang Dong-hyuk had stated that nominating a candidate for the Busan Buk-gap by-election is a natural role and duty for a public party, and the decision would be made through consultations between the party leader and the nomination committee.
