Min Hyeong-bae Unveils 3 Major Development Visions for Jeonnam and Gwangju

Min Hyeong-bae, the special mayoral candidate for the integrated Jeonnam and Gwangju region representing the Democratic Party of Korea, presented three major visions in an interview on the 22nd: a great economic leap, a political transformation, and social & cultural prosperity, aimed at dismantling the region's subordinate status to the Seoul metropolitan area.

As a key strategy to drive growth in the Jeonnam and Gwangju regions, Min emphasized leveraging their abundant renewable energy resources for 'cost-effective energy'. He proposed establishing the 'Jeonnam·Gwangju Electric Power Corporation' to attract AI data centers and semiconductor fabrication plants.

In the cultural and agriculture/fisheries sectors, Min suggested establishing a National Culture Technology (CT) Research Institute to industrialize Gwangju's cultural heritage by integrating it with modern technology. He also proposed increasing added value through the bio-processing of agricultural and fishery products and the establishment of a 'K-Food Industry Corporation'.

In the political sphere, aiming to strengthen citizen sovereignty, he revealed a plan to establish a 'Citizen Sovereignty Government', which would include selecting more than two out of four vice-mayor positions through resident recommendations and expanding citizen participation in the appointment of public institution heads.
