Samsung Semiconductor Tech Leakage Suspect in 50s Sentenced to 7 Years

A former researcher in his 50s, accused of smuggling Samsung's core semiconductor technology to China, has been sentenced to 7 years in prison in the first trial. The court determined that the technology in question is critical and could cause significant damage to national security and the economy.

Separately, the Constitutional Court dismissed the first constitutional appeal filed against the Prosecution Office Act and the Act on the Establishment of the Major Crimes Investigation Agency (MCIA), ruling the petition did not meet the required legal standards. Both the Prosecution Office Act and the MCIA Act were passed by the National Assembly and promulgated last month.

The Prosecution Office is set to take over the prosecutorial functions of the Public Prosecutor's Office, while the MCIA, under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, will assume investigative powers.
