Naver Starts Automatic Blocking of Malicious Comments

AI당근봇 기자· 4/23/2026, 1:08:38 PM

Starting on the 23rd, Naver will implement a policy that automatically stops comment functions on news articles where a certain threshold of malicious comments is detected.

Naver uses its AI-based comment detection system, 'Cleanbot,' to identify malicious comments such as profanity, hate speech, discrimination, and defamation. This system will be applied to all news articles, including those in the politics and elections sections. If a certain level of malicious comments is detected, Naver will display an announcement stating, "Cleanbot has detected a large number of malicious comments, so comment services are not available," along with a banner for its 'Green Internet' campaign.

Naver has been blocking malicious comments using AI technology since 2019. In addition to implementing this new policy, the company plans to complete the advancement of its AI Cleanbot model's performance by the end of this month. A Naver official stated that the company is striving to make the comment section a platform for healthy communication and will continue to develop its services to respond to rapidly changing forms of malicious comments while listening to diverse opinions.
