Dem Party's Han Byung-do Declares Run for Floor Leader Election
Rep. Han Byung-do, a three-term lawmaker from the Democratic Party, has officially announced his candidacy for the next floor leader election scheduled for the 6th of next month. Han was elected in a by-election after the resignation of former floor leader Kim Byung-ki in January, serving for approximately three months, and resigned from his floor leader post on the 21st to pursue re-election.
During his term as floor leader, Rep. Han cited legislative achievements including the passage of the second comprehensive special prosecutor bill, the three judicial reform bills, the bill to establish the Prosecutor's Office and the serious crimes investigation agency, the special bill on investment in the U.S., and the supplementary budget bill for war preparedness. Based on these, he stated, "I will repay the accomplishments of the past 100 days with even greater achievements."
Rep. Han said he will focus the next year of parliamentary operations on achievements and will finalize the composition of the National Assembly for the latter half of the term to concentrate on legislation for people's livelihoods and reform. He emphasized that he will complete all major national tasks for the Lee Jae-myung administration's legislative agenda by December of this year.
Regarding inter-party relations, he expressed an open attitude towards cooperation but stated he would respond resolutely to irresponsible obstructionism that holds national interests and people's livelihoods hostage.
The election for the next floor leader of the Democratic Party will be held on the 6th of next month. Rep. Seo Young-kyo has expressed her intention to run, and Reps. Park Jeong and Baek Hye-ryun are also mentioned as potential candidates.
