Korean AI Models Re-highlighted in Stanford AI Report
The performance of 'Dokpamo' (Domestic AI Foundation Model), an artificial intelligence (AI) model developed by a domestic company, is set to be newly reflected in a recent Stanford University AI report. The report will reflect an increase in the number of Korean AI models from the previously listed 5 to 8.
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 23rd that the number of Korean AI models in the 'AI Index 2026' evaluation, released by Stanford University's Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) Institute on the 13th, is scheduled to be corrected from 5 to 8. The Ministry of Science and ICT had requested additional verification of Korean AI models from the Stanford HAI Institute, and these results have now been incorporated.
This correction positions South Korea in third place (up from fourth previously) for the number of AI models, trailing only the United States (50 models) and China (30 models), marking a one-step rise from last year.
The 8 newly included Korean AI models are Upstage Solar Open 100B, LG AI Research's K-Exaone, Exaone 4.0 (32B), Exaone Pass 2.0, Exaone Deep (32B), NC AI Baeky, SK Telecom's A.X K1, and Naver Cloud's HyperCLOVA X Seed 32B Sync. Five of these are the first evaluation results from the Domestic AI Foundation Model project.
The Stanford HAI Institute had previously reported the number of notable Korean AI models as 5 as of 2025 in its '2026 AI Index'. At that time, 4 of them were models from LG AI Research. The increase in the number of Korean models in this AI Index contributes to solidifying Korea's position as a top-three player in the AI field.
