Deadline for Vacancy Notification Crucial for Joint Local and Parliamentary By-elections

For the 9th National Simultaneous Local Elections and National Assembly by-elections to be held on the same day, notification of parliamentary vacancies must be made by April 30th. This will determine whether by-elections are conducted. If the notification of a parliamentary vacancy is received by the National Election Commission by April 30th, the relevant by-election will be held concurrently with the local elections on June 3rd.

Ahead of the 9th National Simultaneous Local Elections scheduled for June 3rd, National Assembly members seeking to run for local government head positions must resign by May 4th, which is 30 days prior to the election.

If the notification of a parliamentary vacancy occurs on or after May 1st, the by-election will be postponed to April 7th, 2027.
