HD Hyundai Marine Solution Proves Growth Trajectory with Q1 Performance

HD Hyundai Marine Solution demonstrated significant growth in the first quarter of this year, recording sales of 574.6 billion won and an operating profit of 93.4 billion won. This performance was primarily driven by its strong position in the ship repair and maintenance market (after-market) and achievements in digital technology application. Notably, the after-market segment's growth, up 21.4% year-on-year, was a key driver, with substantial contributions from the supply of large engine and own-brand 'HiMSEN Engine' parts.

Furthermore, the company expanded its business scope beyond the maritime sector into land-based power generation through a maintenance contract for power generation facilities with Ecuador's National Electric Company. HD Hyundai Marine Solution secured a stable 'subscription-based' revenue foundation by reaching a cumulative managed fleet of 10,000 vessels. The digital solutions division grew by 33.3%, signaling a transformation from a traditional ship repair company into a 'tech company'. The supply of its Integrated Control System (ECS) to Anduril, a Silicon Valley defense tech firm, further validated its technological prowess in the global defense and autonomous navigation markets.

The establishment of a global logistics hub in Singapore and a 'dual hub' system with Busan are crucial factors for enhancing profitability and accelerating new customer acquisition by reducing lead times and costs. From the second half of the year, revenue recognition is expected to increase from LNG conversion and FSRU orders due to stricter International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations.

The financial investment industry highlighted HD Hyundai Marine Solution's operating profit margin of approximately 16.2%. They explained that its service-centric business structure, despite its manufacturing roots, allows it to maintain superior profitability compared to general shipbuilders. The confluence of aging vessels and environmental regulations creates a favorable growth environment for the company. Projections suggest that the addition of eco-friendly conversion projects in the latter half of the year could lead to a new annual performance record.
