Democrats Urge Trump Administration to Protect Iranian Nationals
More than a dozen Democratic lawmakers have urged the Trump administration to take immediate protective measures for Iranian nationals in the United States, considering the difficult circumstances for their safe return to Iran.
They demanded that the Trump administration refrain from forcibly repatriating Iranians residing in the U.S., halt deportation flights, and fulfill its humanitarian responsibility. They also requested that Iranian nationals be immediately granted temporary protected status, such as Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure (DED), allowing them to temporarily remain in the U.S.
The letter was delivered on April 23, 2026, to the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Secretary of State, the Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
