Controversies Erupt in Democratic Party Primaries Across Gwangju, Jeonnam

Ahead of the local elections, allegations of proxy voting and post-selection disputes continue to plague the Democratic Party's primary elections in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions. In areas such as Hwasun, Jangseong, and Sinan, suspicions of proxy voting have been raised due to the collection of elderly citizens' mobile phones, the gathering of multiple phones in one location, and the discovery of papers with names and birthdates. Consequently, the primary elections for county mayors in Hwasun and Jangseong have been suspended.

The Gwangju-Jeonnam Election Management Committee has filed complaints regarding at least 23 cases related to the local elections, with 44 individuals named as defendants.

In the Muan County mayoral primary, defeated candidates are continuing to demand the elected candidate's resignation, citing allegations of pre-election campaigning.
