Following the selection of U.S. President Donald Trump as the first recipient of the newly established FIFA Peace Prize at the 2026 North America World Cup draw ceremony, the Norwegian Football Federation has officially demanded the abolition of this award. FIFA presented the newly established FIFA Peace Prize to U.S. President Donald Trump at the 2026 North America World Cup draw ceremony.

Lise Klaveness, President of the Norwegian Football Federation, stated at an online press conference on April 27 (local time) that the FIFA Peace Prize carries a significant risk of becoming entangled in political matters, arguing that it is not the role of a football governing body. Klaveness also cited the fact that the Nobel Committee independently handles the awarding of peace-related prizes as a basis for her argument.

At the time, international public criticism was raised, and Reuters reported that President Donald Trump had previously claimed he should receive the Nobel Peace Prize himself.

The Norwegian Football Federation plans to collaborate with the non-profit organization FairSquare to send a letter to FIFA requesting an investigation into whether FIFA's ethical regulations were applied. FairSquare alleges that FIFA may have violated its own ethical codes in the process of awarding the Peace Prize to President Trump.
