Verdict Looms for Former Division Commander Im Sung-geun in Negligent Homicide Case; Special Prosecutor Demands 5 Years
The first trial verdict for Im Sung-geun, former commander of the Marine Corps' 1st Division, regarding charges of occupational negligence leading to death or injury in connection with the death of Sergeant Chae, is scheduled for August 8th. The special prosecutor team that investigated the case has requested a 5-year prison sentence for former commander Im.
The verdict for the second trial of former prosecutor Kim Sang-min is also scheduled for the same day. The Kim Keon-hee Special Prosecutor team has requested a 6-year prison sentence.
Former prosecutor Kim was indicted on charges including offering high-value paintings to the First Lady's side in exchange for political nominations and personnel appointments. In the first trial, he was found guilty only of violating the Political Funds Act, receiving a 6-month prison sentence suspended for 1 year, and ordered to pay a forfeiture of over 41.39 million won.
