KOSPI Surges Past 6,900 for First Time, Closes Up Over 5%
The KOSPI index, representing South Korea's stock market, rose over 5% on May 4, surpassing the 6,900 level for the first time in history. The KOSPI closed at 6,936.99, up 5.12% from the previous trading day.
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, stocks of high interest among retail investors, also recorded significant gains of 5.44% and 12.52%, respectively.
As of April 29, the net outstanding balance of short selling in the KOSPI market was 20.1086 trillion won. Hyundai Motor's net outstanding short selling balance was 1.9531 trillion won, and Hanmi Semiconductor's was 1.9275 trillion won.
