Owner of 10 neglected dogs in squalid home reported to police
Ten dogs were rescued after being abandoned in a trash-filled home reeking of filth and covered in excrement.
In an apartment in downtown Jeju City, the stench was overwhelming and cockroaches swarmed as soon as the front door was opened, with the entrance blocked by trash and animal waste. Despite persistent complaints about the odor and pests for the past four years, administrative agencies found it difficult to take immediate action due to the property being considered 'private property.' The head of Jeju City's Animal Protection Team stated that administrative intervention within private property is challenging and that they have faced accusations of trespassing in the past.
Only after receiving a report suspecting animal abuse was a forced entry conducted by firefighters and police for an emergency rescue under the Animal Protection Act. Jeju City has filed a police report against the 50-year-old female owner, who is unreachable, for violating the Animal Protection Act.
The 10 dogs rescued are currently under temporary care at the Jeju Animal Shelter for four weeks. If the owner does not pay the boarding costs, ownership will be transferred to Jeju Province, and adoption procedures will commence.
