Yeosu Democratic Party Member Under Investigation for Alleged 500,000 Won Receipt
A registered member of the Democratic Party in Yeosu is under preliminary police investigation over allegations of receiving 500,000 won from a specific candidate. A voice recording secured by KBC broadcast reportedly contains content of a candidate running in an election giving 500,000 won to the party member, and the member's statements admitting to receiving the money have been confirmed.
The registered party member has admitted to receiving the money, and it is understood that the candidate gave them 500,000 won at a cafe in Yeosu in late February.
Allegations have surfaced that the candidate requested campaigning assistance from the party member in exchange for the money. However, the candidate's camp refuted this, claiming the party member demanded the money first. The candidate's side stated that the party member said, "You want me to introduce you to senior's girlfriend... I have two good junior colleagues, would you perhaps like to be introduced?" and added, "(Since I have to eat and drink with them) give me some introduction fee..." They further explained, "(The party member) asked for it, so I gave it," and clarified that the money was received "from the ATM at the convenience store next door."
Police are investigating the matter for alleged violations of election law.
