President Lee Jae-myung at Children's Day Event: "Making Every Day Feel Like Children's Day"

President Lee Jae-myung pledged on May 5, Children's Day, "I will do my best to create a society where every day of the year can feel like Children's Day." On this day, the President and First Lady Kim Hye-kyung hosted a commemorative event, inviting children from diverse backgrounds to the presidential office (formerly Cheong Wa Dae).

In a message posted on social media, President Lee stated, "I wholeheartedly wish for our children, the future of Korea, to always be healthy," and emphasized, "Children, like adults, just need a little more time; they are by no means deficient or immature."

Approximately 200 children and their guardians, hailing from various backgrounds including depopulating regions, child welfare facilities, single-parent and multicultural families, children with disabilities or rare diseases, and those living near Cheong Wa Dae, attended the invitation-only event at Cheong Wa Dae. This event was the first Children's Day celebration since the launch of the Lee Jae-myung administration and the first event held after the presidential office's relocation back to Cheong Wa Dae.

During the event, when a child asked, "How did you become president?" President Lee replied, "The citizens are the true masters of this country. If you prepare diligently and work hard for the people and earn their recognition, you can become president." To the question, "What does a president do?" he explained, "It's the job of someone who considers ways for all citizens to live better and decides how to spend tax money wisely."

Afterward, the President and First Lady spent time playing freely with the children at Nokjiwon Garden. While walking, the First Lady asked one child about their dream. The child replied, "I want to become a rapper," and performed a song they had written. President Lee stated, "I will do my utmost to build a nation where children can nurture their dreams regardless of their circumstances and can pursue opportunities based on fair chances."
