20th National Assembly: Floor leaders Chung Jin-suk and Woo Sang-ho meet for the first time
On May 5, 2016, Chung Jin-suk, then floor leader of the Saenuri Party, and Woo Sang-ho, then floor leader of the New Democracy Party, met for the first time. The two pledged to work together to effectively manage the National Assembly amidst a parliamentary landscape where the ruling party lacked a majority.
Woo Sang-ho, the Democratic Party's floor leader, noted that in the previous 19th National Assembly, many agreements were often overturned due to intervention from the Blue House. He requested that Chung Jin-suk, drawing on his experience as a senior political secretary to the president, secure greater autonomy for the legislature.
Chung Jin-suk, the Saenuri Party's floor leader, referenced his experience as a senior political secretary during the Lee Myung-bak administration, emphasizing the importance of national governance through party-government consultations. He stated that he recognized the "supreme command" of cooperation and a minority ruling party set by the people, assuring that there would be no unreasonable demands from the president.
