Min Hyung-bae Camp Urges PPP to Support Enshrining May 18th Spirit in Constitution
The campaign for Min Hyung-bae, a candidate from the Democratic Party of Korea, urged the People Power Party on May 6th to vote in favor of including the spirit of the May 18th Democratization Movement in the preamble of the constitution during the National Assembly plenary session on May 7th. The aim is to formally recognize the spirit of the May 18th Democratization Movement in the constitution.
In a statement released on May 6th, the Min Hyung-bae campaign declared that enshrining the May 18th spirit in the constitution is a long-overdue task of the times and a command from the citizens of Jeonnam Province and Gwangju City.
The campaign criticized the People Power Party for blocking the constitutional inclusion of the May 18th spirit, citing arguments of a 'hasty constitutional amendment for election purposes.' The Min Hyung-bae campaign demanded that Lee Jung-hyun, a candidate for the People Power Party's integrated mayoral position, abandon hiding behind a compromise of 'free member votes' and instead show a responsible stance by adopting a party resolution. It also warned that they would watch, alongside the citizens of the province and city, on May 7th to see who stands on the side of democracy and who becomes a sinner in history.
