Candidate Lee Won-taek Denies Allegations in Police Probe Over Alleged Meal Sponsorship
Lee Won-taek, a candidate for Jeonbuk Governor for the Democratic Party of Korea, was investigated by police on the 7th over allegations of violating the Public Official Election Act for 'meal cost sponsorship.'
The candidate is accused of violating the Public Official Election Act when a third party paid for some of the meal expenses at a gathering with local youth. Regarding this, Lee stated, 'I swear to my personal conscience and before God that I never requested such sponsorship.'
He added, concerning who paid the bill on the day of the incident, 'I left early, so I don't know who paid, and I never instructed or requested anyone beforehand.'
