Rockfall Near Daegu Underpass Kills Pedestrian

A pedestrian died after a large rock fell from a slope next to an underpass in Bongdeok-dong, Nam-gu, Daegu, at around 10:47 a.m. on Tuesday. The accident occurred on a pathway connecting to the Sinchencheon Riverside area.

The road, used by both pedestrians and vehicles, saw the victim unable to avoid the sudden rockfall while walking on the pedestrian path.

It was confirmed that no safety fence was installed on the slope where the accident occurred. The collapsed material was identified as natural rock, not a retaining wall. Authorities controlled the scene and blocked the Sangdonggyo riverside road to manage the aftermath of the accident.
