OpenAI Fires Back in Musk Lawsuit, Accuses Him of Pursuing For-Profit Entity and Trying to Weaken Rivals
In the second week of the legal battle surrounding OpenAI, led by Elon Musk and Sam Altman, OpenAI has counterattacked, alleging that Musk previously pushed for the establishment of a for-profit entity and is now attempting to weaken competitors.
Musk claimed in court last week that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and President Greg Brockman broke their promise to establish a non-profit organization dedicated to developing AI for humanity. He alleged they instead established a for-profit subsidiary after securing billions of dollars in investment from Microsoft. Musk filed a lawsuit alleging fraud over a $38 million donation, claiming OpenAI did not uphold its non-profit commitments.
In his testimony this week, OpenAI President Greg Brockman presented a contrasting view to Musk's claims, stating that Elon Musk was actively pushing for the establishment of a for-profit OpenAI entity and fought fiercely to secure 'absolute control' over it.
Former OpenAI board member Shivon Zilis testified that Elon Musk attempted to recruit Sam Altman to lead a new AI research lab at his electric vehicle company, Tesla. OpenAI contends that the lawsuit was filed to weaken competitor xAI after Musk's attempts to have his way failed.
