Man Gets 5-Year Sentence in Appellate Court for Sexually Abusing Relatives with Mental Disabilities
A man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, who was indicted on charges of sexually assaulting his mother-in-law with a mental disability and his teenage sister-in-law with an intellectual disability, has received a five-year prison sentence in an appellate court.
Mr. A is accused of touching the body of his sister-in-law, Ms. B, at his residence in Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju, on November 5, 2023. He is also accused of touching the body of his mother-in-law, Ms. C, at a motel in Sejong on September 10 of the same year. It was reported that Mr. A committed the latter offense after consuming alcohol when he found himself alone with his mother-in-law as his wife was unable to join them.
Mr. A denied the charges in the first trial but admitted his wrongdoing and showed remorse in the second trial. The court pointed out that the defendant exploited the victims' disabilities and minor status, given their familial relationship, and ruled that the original sentence was appropriate, even considering his repentant attitude.
