Approval Gap Draws Attention Amidst Ruling, Opposition Parties' All-Out Battle Over Constitutional Amendment, Real Estate
Amidst the fierce contention between the ruling and opposition parties over constitutional amendments, real estate, and responsibility for sedition ahead of the June 3 local elections, survey results indicate a slight narrowing of the approval rating gap between the Democratic Party and the People Power Party. The trends in the approval ratings of both parties and their underlying causes are drawing attention.
Following the failed vote on the constitutional amendment bill, the Democratic Party continues to attack the People Power Party with accusations of 'siding with sedition' and 'hindering constitutional amendment,' while the People Power Party counters by highlighting the 'arrogance frame.'
In the Seoul mayoral election, Democratic Party candidate Jung Han-tae is campaigning on a '30-minute commute city' and Yongsan development plans, while People Power Party candidate Oh Se-hoon is presenting '310,000-unit supply' and Yongsan development plans in a policy debate.
The People Power Party is finding significance in the signs of recovery in its approval ratings from a post-founding low of 15%. However, the considerable gap with the Democratic Party and the continued majority support for 'supporting the incumbent government' in surveys on the nature of local elections remain points of concern.
Survey results also show a close contest within the margin of error between the Democratic Party and the People Power Party in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk (TK) region.
This survey was conducted by Embrain Public, Kstat Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research from May 4th to 6th, targeting 1,001 men and women aged 18 and over nationwide.
