Chung Dong-young, Minister of Unification, suggested that former U.S. President Donald Trump's posting of photos from the first North Korea-U.S. summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un could be a signal of the start of correspondence diplomacy with Kim Jong-un. Attention is being paid to whether Trump's move will influence future relations with North Korea.

The Ministry of Unification proposed 'peaceful two states' as a strategy to implement the current administration's 'Korean Peninsula Peace Coexistence' policy. In this context, Minister Chung Dong-young also referred to North Korea as 'Choson' (Korea).

Former Minister of Unification Lee Jae-joung, the last to serve under the Roh Moo-hyun administration, pointed out that the 'theory of adversarial two states' cannot be recognized or accepted constitutionally, and advised that more internal discussion is needed regarding its application in the direction of peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Experts participating in the International Forum on Korean Peninsula Affairs expressed skepticism about the prospects of resuming North Korea-U.S. dialogue. Former National Intelligence Service Director Suh Hoon mentioned the need to clarify the stance on the 'theory of peaceful two states,' implying the complexity of future inter-Korean peace discussions and the importance of a cautious approach.
