Quantum Technology Development Bill Passes Cabinet Meeting
The quantum bill has passed the Cabinet meeting.
A bill to support research and industrial utilization of cutting-edge quantum technologies, including quantum computing, supercomputing (HPC), and AI convergence, has passed the Cabinet meeting. The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that the 'Partial Amendment to the Act on the Promotion of Quantum Science and Technology and Quantum Industry' passed the Cabinet meeting on the 12th.
This amendment establishes for the first time in law the basis for government support for quantum computing, supercomputing (HPC), and AI convergence technologies, thereby strengthening related research and development (R&D) and commercialization processes.
Consequently, the foundation has been laid for applying quantum technology in the defense sector, and the government has been assigned obligations to establish quantum security systems and conduct quantum technology impact assessments.
Furthermore, a basis has been established for researchers and companies to request improvements from the government regarding regulatory difficulties encountered in quantum technology R&D and commercialization. A framework has also been newly created for diagnosing and responding to vulnerabilities in the supply chain for key quantum materials, components, and equipment, as well as for supporting international cooperation and standardization projects.
