Care Workers Urge Local Election Candidates on Policy Demands

Workers who care for the sick or those in need, either at home or in facilities, have presented policy demands to candidates in the upcoming local elections.

The North Chungcheong branches of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the National Caregivers Association urged candidates to reform the wage system for care workers, guarantee a living wage, and develop policies that ensure stable employment.

They stated, "Better care is possible only when not only the residents receiving care but also the care workers themselves are happy." They requested that through this election, efforts be made to ensure that care becomes a social right for which local governments and the public are responsible, rather than a personal market choice.
