Environmental Group: 'Stop Saemangeum Election Ploys, Shift Paradigm'
The Jeonbuk branch of the Korean Federation for Environmental Movement (KFEM) issued a statement on the 14th, urging the political establishment to immediately halt the 'Saemangeum selling' that recurs every election season and to embark on a paradigm shift.
In its statement, KFEM pointed out that at a time when even the President has expressed deep concern over Saemangeum's reality and mentioned a new transition, politicians are still attempting to win votes by drawing rosy mirages over decaying waters. Emphasizing that Saemangeum should no longer serve as a tool for politicians to gain votes, a testing ground for conglomerate businesses, or a victim of hasty development, KFEM urged that for this election not to become 'Saemangeum Hope Torture Season 2,' the Democratic Party must abandon the arrogance of vested interests and respond to the demand for a paradigm shift for Jeonbuk's survival.
KFEM called on the Democratic Party to continuously circulate seawater to improve Saemangeum Lake's water quality, prevent indiscriminate landfilling, and establish measures for the preservation of tidal flats.
