Song Young-gil: 'Local elections should be fought by highlighting achievements of the Lee Jae-myung government'

Song Young-gil, a candidate for the Incheon Yeonsu-gap by-election representing the Democratic Party of Korea, argued that the upcoming June 3 local elections should be fought by front-lining the 'achievements of the Lee Jae-myung government.' Song suggested that the party's current strategy of labeling the People Power Party as a 'constitutionally invalid party' and emphasizing a message of 'judging sedition' could be disadvantageous in elections in the Yeongnam region. He pointed out that this approach overlooks the fundamental nature of local elections.

Song identified contacting Iran to resolve the issue of detained Korean vessels in the Strait of Hormuz as his top priority if elected. He expressed his resolve to swiftly prepare countermeasures based on his experience as Chairman of the 21st National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, where he resolved issues during the period of the Iranian vessel detention.

For the Incheon Yeonsu-gap constituency, Song pledged to finalize the push for the second Gyeongin Line and establish a multimodal transfer center at Cheonghak Station for the GTX-B route. To revitalize reconstruction and redevelopment projects, he promised to increase floor area ratios.

Regarding his potential candidacy for party leadership in the August election, Song stated, 'I don't want to be fixated on becoming party leader.' He left the possibility open, saying, 'I will judge based on whether there is a clear summons from party members.'
