Two Chuncheon City Councilors to Be Elected Unopposed Again After Four Years

In Chuncheon City Council's 'Sa' electoral district in Gangwon Province, candidates Kwon Hee-young of the Democratic Party and Kim Yong-gap of the People Power Party are expected to be confirmed as elected without a vote, for the second time after the local elections four years ago.

The Chuncheon City Election Commission announced on the 15th that following the candidate registration deadline, only two individuals, Kwon Hee-young and Kim Yong-gap, had registered for the Chuncheon City Council's 'Sa' electoral district.

As the number of seats to be filled in the district is equal to the number of registered candidates, both individuals will be declared elected without a separate vote according to the Public Official Election Act. The law stipulates that if the number of candidates in an electoral district does not exceed the number of council seats to be elected, no vote will be conducted, and the candidates will be declared elected on election day.

This is a repeat of an exceptional case where both candidates, running in the same 'Sa' electoral district, were elected without opposition during the 8th Local Elections in 2022.
