Chung Chae-rae Apologizes for Failure to Include May 18th Spirit in Constitution Preamble, Promises Local Election Victory
Democratic Party of Korea Chairman Chung Chae-rae apologized on the 18th for the failure to include the spirit of the May 18th Democratization Movement in the Constitution's preamble, pledging to achieve it through victory in the June 3rd local elections.
Speaking at a central election committee meeting held at a campaign office in Gwangju's Dong-gu district on the 46th anniversary of the May 18th Democratization Movement, Chairman Chung stated that the goals of the local elections would be to judge forces that endangered the constitutional order and restore democracy.
Chairman Chung also emphasized that the Lee Jae-myung administration would provide full support to the Honam region so as not to be ashamed before the spirits of the May 18th Democratization Movement. He mentioned the push for the integration of Jeonnam and Gwangju and identified candidate Min Hyung-bae as the right person to lead it.
