Chatbot technology expert Jeffrey Bilbro has warned that Christians could be called 'people of the chatbot' in the AI era. Bilbro pointed out the danger of Christians seeking individual, fragmented information through chatbots instead of engaging in communal Bible study.

He questioned how the use of technology might alter faith-based understanding, imagining a future where AI chatbots are consulted for theological and ethical questions, AI-generated sermons are listened to, or individuals seek mechanical counseling. The chatbot technology expert explained that while the risk of treating the Bible as purely personal even with a printed text exists, this danger could be significantly amplified when using chatbots.

God can speak through chatbots, just as through dreams or visions. In the same way, one might hear God's voice through chatbot responses. However, despite this possibility, if interactions with chatbots lead to the Bible being perceived as a mere 'vending machine' for answers, then a deep understanding of faith and communal exchange could fade.
