New Reform Party Protests Political Lyrics at May 18th Vigil
The New Reform Party has officially protested to the organizers of the 46th anniversary May 18th Democratization Movement vigil over lyrics that appeared to target specific opposition figures. The party maintains that the May 18th vigil should not become a political stage for any particular faction and has expressed its regret at the party level.
The New Reform Party has sent an official document to the May 18th People's Uprising Commemoration Committee, the event's organizer. The document lodges a protest against the performance that seemingly mocked specific politicians and demands measures to prevent recurrence.
Lee Dong-hoon, the New Reform Party's chief spokesperson, stated, "We await your committee's swift and sincere official explanation to restore the event's fairness and dignity." Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the New Reform Party, shared a portion of the vigil performance video on his personal Facebook account, criticizing the organizers' planning. The video featured modified lyrics from the folk song 'Bae Norae' (Boat Song), mentioning figures including Lee, along with Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the People Power Party, and Oh Se-hoon, the Mayor of Seoul.
