Candidate Jung Won-oh Urges Halt to GTX-A Samseong Station Construction Over Missing Rebar

On May 21st, the first day of official campaigning for the June 3rd local elections, Democratic Party of Korea Seoul mayoral candidate Jung Won-oh called for an immediate halt to construction on the Samseong Station section of the Capital Area Express Railway (GTX) A line, amid controversy over faulty construction, including missing rebar.

Candidate Jung emphasized that Basement Level 5 of the GTX-A Samseong Station is the core foundation of the entire structure and expressed concern that flaws in this section could lead to problems in the upper levels. He added that a safe construction plan should be sought through consultation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

This issue was raised as candidates embarked on their election campaigns on May 21st, the official start of the June 3rd local election period.
