Former President Park Geun-hye Visits Chungcheong, Daejeon Regions After Daegu Stop
Former President Park Geun-hye has embarked on a nationwide election campaign tour for the first time in nine years since her impeachment in 2017. Following her visit to Daegu on May 23, 2026, the former president visited North Chungcheong Province and Daejeon on May 25. On the 23rd, she visited Daegu's Chilseong Market to support People Power Party's Daegu mayoral candidate Choo Kyung-ho. On the 25th, she visited the birthplace of the late First Lady Yuk Young-soo in Okcheon, North Chungcheong Province, accompanied by candidates such as Kim Young-hwan for North Chungcheong Governor and Jeon Sang-in for Okcheon County Mayor, before visiting the campaign office of Daejeon mayoral candidate Lee Jang-woo, actively supporting People Power Party candidates in the Yeongnam and Chungcheong regions.
The former president's campaign activities are aimed at supporting People Power Party candidates ahead of the June 3 local elections. Park expressed her support for Daegu mayoral candidate Choo Kyung-ho, stating, "I am well aware of the difficult economic situation and will prepare good policies."
The former president is scheduled to continue her campaign tour in the Yeongnam and Chungcheong regions until election day. Her aide, Representative Yoo Young-ha, has hinted at visits to Busan and Ulsan, and mentioned the possibility of visiting South Chungcheong Province, suggesting a de facto nationwide tour.
Within the People Power Party, there are expectations that Park's reappearance will help rally voters in closely contested districts. However, concerns are also being raised that her prominent involvement could alienate swing voters and those in the Seoul metropolitan area, leading to divided assessments on the impact her campaign will have on the election results.
