Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik Calls for Fundamental Measures Against Illegal Streaming and Sexual Crimes
Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik has ordered the development of fundamental measures to address online illegal sports streaming and the distribution of digital sexual offense materials.
Kang, the Chief of Staff, emphasized at a senior secretaries' meeting that temporary measures are insufficient to reduce victims despite the recurring nature of these problems.
Kang explained that illegal sports streaming sites lure users into illegal gambling by offering free viewing as bait. In 2024 alone, there were over 20,000 reports of illegal sports gambling. Digital sexual offense materials have been found to bypass blocks and remain accessible in over 70% of cases even after being taken down.
