Telecom Carriers Developing Real-time AI to Block Voice Phishing

The three major telecommunications companies are mobilizing AI technology for voice phishing prevention, developing and implementing AI-based solutions. These AI systems analyze call context in real-time, leveraging "voice data" of scammers to enhance detection accuracy. This feature can be used regardless of the telecommunications provider, without requiring the protected party to install a separate app.

KT has commercialized an AI service that detects manipulated voices, while LG Uplus is using its proprietary AI app 'Exio' to link financial sector data for blocking attempts.

Meanwhile, voice phishing incidents increased by 17% in the first quarter of this year compared to the previous year, with the average damage per case soaring to 53 million won, nearly tripling, indicating the growing severity and scale of these crimes.
