Gwangju Proposes Strategy to Host UN AI Hub
The Gwangju Institute has proposed a strategy to 'Attract a UN AI Hub' to develop Gwangju into a global center for international AI cooperation.
Gwangju's differentiated competitiveness in discussions on AI ethics and inclusive norms stems from its identity as a city of democracy and human rights, symbolized by the May 18th Democratic Uprising. Its cultural infrastructure centered around the Asia Culture Center and its integrated demonstration environment encompassing urban, rural, marine, and industrial areas, linked with the concept of a unified Special City for Jeonnam and Gwangju, are also unique strengths of Gwangju.
Attracting a UN AI Hub would enable the establishment of a data management and AI learning support platform for UN agencies, support AI transitions in developing countries, and allow Gwangju to serve as a demonstration city for solving global issues in health, education, climate, and energy.
Specific strategies for attracting the UN AI Hub include bidding for the Asia-Pacific hub of the UN International Computing Center, operating AI policy and norms training programs for developing countries, and establishing demonstration cooperation models between UN agencies, the Gwangju-Jeonnam Metropolitan City, and corporations. The attraction of the UN AI Hub could serve as a significant turning point for the globalization of Gwangju's AI ecosystem.
